As time progresses, so does the trend of the individual. This is demonstrated throughout the anything goes spirit of the latter 20th century. The mix of styles and eras with the resurgence of 'retro' fashions culminates in the 1990's encompassing looks from the skin tight to ultra baggy, psychedelic and bell bottomed, preppy, gothic, and everything in between. This mix of styles can be found together almost anywhere in the 90's. Is there a style that is distinctly 90's? Perhaps there isn't a single answer. One may argue that the designers have less control over the image of society than they did in the past. Others may site that designer labels have great influence, and that in some cases have replaced gang colors. Both statements may be equal in validity. It is often hard to sift through a culture when immersed in it and maintain an objective perspective. Though society as a whole is getting smaller through constantly evolving communications technologies, the way we look remains a patchwork of personal identity. Yet, if there is a central theme peeking out from the pages of the golssys, perhaps it is the old maxim 'less is more.' Simplicity of shape and color, ironically an idea which appears timeless may send us into the next millenium.
