The turn of the 20th century accompanied by many technological advancements and involvement in the first world war brought many changes to both the norms of society and its fashion. By the end of the first decade much of the strait-laced Victorian image had given rise to a more carefree and relaxed flavor. The first decade featured Edwardian styles with an s-shaped silhouette full pouched bodice. Gored skirts which were flat in the front and emphasized a rounded hipline in the back and close fitting to the knee and then flared at the bottom were also popular.
