I couldn't disagree with you more Karen. I believe in God too, but in case you haven't noticed, God doesn't believe in interfering (or intervening) with us. God does not give and take away, Nature does. Although I can understand it, and empathize to a point, I personally find it very discouraging when people blame (or apologize for) God when a baby dies, or when any tradjedy strikes. These things are of Nature, God is not. God may have created Nature, but for reasons He chooses to keep to Himself, he does not bend the rules...for anyone. Perhaps because He has created us in His own image has he given us the freedom to make our own choices, to "rule over the beasts of the Earth" (and by this I understand 'beasts of the Earth' to be all of Nature's wonders and principles).
I believe that God can only come into the world in one way, through our hearts. As such, if you truly view your life as pathetic, then I suspect it is you who are most removed from God, not the men and women of responsible scienctific work who have let God enough into their hearts to have confidence in themselves and in their capacity for goodness and productiveness. Cloning is but another application of the principles of Nature that God has given us the capacity and motivation to study, understand, and hopefully and ultimately, to apply in bettering "our pathetic little lives".
