| Introduction Genetic Engineering In the Movies Cloning Through the Ages?! |
Multiplicity: Seeing Doubles "Cloning is a way of life." (Tagline for Multiplicity.) This movie can be easily put in the fiction section! When a clone is made, it does not start out as being 14, or 28, or whatever age its creators want it to be. Clones, like all animals, start out as babies. So if Michael Keaton really created a clone of himself, it would not be the same age as him! Secondly, exact is a relative term. Having an exact clone of someone does not necessarily mean that they will be the exact same person. That is, they will not necessarily have the same personality or IQ. These factors are formed not only by genes but also by the environment in which the clone was raised. Simply put, you cannot clone someones memories. A clone comes from a cells nucleus, which has nothing to do with the brains memories. Lastly, though we cannot be sure, clones probably would not deteriorate with each copy. In Multiplicity, each clone became less intelligent and mentally stable than the one before it. This is not true of real clones. Even if Dolly was cloned, in theory at least, the resulting clone of a clone would not have any mental deficiencies if the procedure was carried out properly.
