The Ochyraea tatrensis can be found in Nizké Tatry National Park in Central Slovakia. The two localities where the species can be found are close to each other. The localities are at the elevation of 5, 250 feet (1600m). This moss inhabits granites, rocks in streams, and below small waterfalls.
This moss usually measures about 3 - 4 inches (7.6-10cm) long. It creates green mats. Its leaves have shapes of sickle and its cells are layered.
The male and female organs are on separate plants.
The moss was first found in 1985. Some threats this moss is facing are pollution and change in air and water quality.
