Piazza di Spagna
The famous Spanish steps, are the main elements of the Piazza di spagna. This square was built in the form of a butterfly: long in the middle and two wings. In the middle, right before the Spanish steps the Fontana del la Barcaccia can be found.
Then - if you look further - you will see the famous Spanish steps. These Steps were built for Louis XV of France, so the name actually is not right. Louis XIV was intended to do it, but the popes were not charmed by the idea that on the steps a statue of hom must be seen so the plans did not come up to the expectations. The French, who had paid for it, wanted the name to be "French Steps" but the Steps are named after the Spanisch Embassy. The Steps were built in the 18th century because it was the connecting way between the church and the square. The number "3"is central in it: it censosts of three ,,floors". In this way the designer wanted to link it with the three-partial of the church (Father- Son- Holy Spirit). The Steps are even as the other buildings in baroque style.
Nowadays, on this square many young people meet. (In the 18th century many Englisch could be found there, and in the 60s the existentialists.) On the square many traders and street-musicians can be found and artists are also busy. But all the people have made the square famous and it is always pleased there!
