Piazza del Popolo

This square is one of the most beautiful and imposing ones of Rome. Its appearance changed a great deal from the 1400’s to the 1800’s, with the reconstruction of the church of Santa Maria del Popolo, the placement of the Flamenian obelisk at the center of the piazza, and the additionof neo-classical elements by Gikseppe Valadir, which actually was the disigner of the square. In this square many styles can be seen: the renaissancedoorway of Michelangelo, which was changed by Bernini into a baroque one. The neo-classical style can also be found, f.e. the steps. On this square three churches can be seen and a 24 m high obelisk in the middle of it. Because of the variety, the people’s square must visited.
