The Forum of August

The forum was a very busy place, used for markets, shopping, political gatherings and as a general meeting place. It was oblong and was surrounded by public buildings such as law courts and temples, which often had tall pillars and imposing entrances which made it a place of great dignity. As Rome grew bigger one forum wasn’t enough and several others were made. these later ones were either legal and official centers or markets, but not both. There were seperate markets for cattle, vegetables and so on. The remains of the Roman fora have been discovered and partly restored. When we go to Rome we’ll walk where the ancient Romans bought and sold and argued 2000 years ago.
