Fontana dell Acqua Felice
The Mosesfontain, or in Italian Fontana dell Acqua Felice, named to the pope who gave the commission, was built in 1588 and can be found on the Piazza S. Bernardo alle Terme. Pope Sixtus V, also known als Felice Peretti, gave the order to restore the ancient aquaduct, which was built by Alexander Severus in the 2nd century, which this innovation he could provide the new housing estate he had built with water and it didnt come as a surprise that the aqauduct would be a monument - it would be the first fountain, estimated as a monument of the 16th century.
So luckily, there was water, but the fountain has not brought good luck to everyone; esspecially not to the manufacturer of the statue. He had made the mistake to hew the statue from stone at once, without a model, so it had the result was the most strange proportions and laughing Romains. When he asked the pope to change his design, he said to Brescia it was not neccessary. The hewer was disappointed and because of he could not came up to or outdo the art of Michelangelo, he commited suiride. Thats the story of the Moses-statue, but there are also other pieces of art.
The four black lions are capres of the real ones, which are in the Vatican Museum. The little "big" cats squirt the water basic with graceful curves. On the reliefs on the side are also Aaron (who leads his people buck to the bron) and Gideon (who allowed his soldats to drink).
In summer sometimes, when it is very hot, young boys can be seen swimming in the basin. The girls arent allowed, so they are always sitting in the shadow of the trees, and they always say, if a tourist ask why? "We do not want swim among the rubbish" but actually it is a tradition.
