Ancient sculptures
The ancient sculpture can be divided into three periods : the Classical period, the hellenistic period and the Roman period.
The Classical period was from the 7th until the 5th century BC. It has its origin in the Egyptic sculpture, only the sculptures from the classical period were mostlyt very symmetric. A for the first part of this period typical types of sculpture are the ? , those are male upright figures , standing on both feet , often looking like a God.
Unlike the Egyptic sculptors, the Greek sculptors improved their technical skills so that the ? became more and more natural. The unnatural look of the sculptures still existing was its carriage. Sculptors started to change this later which led to the end of the ?
In the transitionperiod from the first part of the Classical period to the second period, many sculptures were made of bronze which was easier to mold and more stable converted into a sculpture. In this waysculptures could be made more natural and the people seemed to live later on in the second period, those sculptures were also made of marble.
The Hellenistic period dured from the 5th century until the late first century BC. This period produced a lot of sculptures. There were three clear trends.
The first was a interest in other subjects like female nude, foreigners and different ages. As a second change, emotions became more and more important. The third change was signed by the new forms like groups and twisted figures that could be watched from all sides.
Half past the second century BC a lot of old sculptures were copied and ended the Greek sculpture.
