Exploration of Uranus

Exploration of Uranus

Voyager 2 after passing by Saturn was guided toward Uranus. It passed by Uranus within 50,000 mi (80,000 km) in January 1986, finding four more rings and ten new moons. Voyager 2 came even closer to one of Uranus’ moons, Miranda, transmitting startling photographs of that icy body. The spacecraft then headed for Neptune, passing by within 3100 mi (5000 km) of the planet in August 1989 and finding six additional Neptunian moons prior to leaving the solar system.
