Low Enery Cosmic Rays

A detector composed of GM tubes (4) and a solid state device was used to detect low energy cosmic rays-protons (500 keV .gt.e.lt. 11 MeV) and electrons (e.gt. 40 keV and e.gt. 150 MeV)-while the spacecraft journied to and passed Mars. The detectors were oriented at 70 deg and 135 deg to the spacecraft roll axis. The spacecraft was launched on November 28, 1964 into a heliocentric orbit. It encountered micrometeoroids and transmission from the satellite ended December 20, 1967.
