Module 1

Module 1

Welcome to Module 1! This is the Beginner Module, meant for new neophytes to the world of QBasic. If you already know some QBasic, we suggest that you move on to Module 2 or 3. Alternatively, you can look through these too to refresh your memory. But first, get a can of Coke to pump up on caffeine. We admit these tutorials are a little wordy, but any really dedicated programmer would still read them, yes?

Lesson 1 - Welcome to your first lesson. We'll start off with something simple like text commands. These include Print, Cls, 1-2, Screen, Color, <:>, Locate, End, Shell, System, Sleep, and Goto.

Lesson 2 - Now that you know what text is all about, let's learn about what makes a real program: Control Flow commands like If, Then, and Else If. These divert the "flow" of the program and are thus very important commands. It is imperative that you get them correct. Learn what variables are all about, and all about directional input commands like Input, (,), and (;).

Lesson 3 - Text is too simple for a toughie like you. Today we do Art Class with commands like Line, Circle, Color, Palette and Paint. Learn Viewports with the View command. We reviewed our work on advanced control flow like While, Wend, Select Case, Do, Loop, For, Next, and Exit during break. Finally, Math lesson - we brush up on your Math with QB math signs like <,>, =, <>, <=,>=, Random, and Randomize Timer! Don't forget to make your own palm prints!

Lesson 4 - Lesson 4 is a tough nut to crack. Sharpen up your nutcrackers for the new Error syntax and specific variables like Date$, Time$, Left$, Right$ and Mid$. Learn how to copy homework from files using Line Input, Open, Access, As #1, For, Input #1, Print #1 commands. These commands deal with file manipulation. Try not to copy when your teacher is looking.

Lesson 5 - Time is money, as they say. Thus make lots of money with time commands like Timer while finishing the Coke. Also paste little labels on your test tubes so you don't add barium to water. You do this with line labeling (label:) and program chaining such as Chain, Run, and Common commands. Finally, we learn all about FAT with the Chdir, Rmdir, Mkdir, Kill, Name. .as commands. This is not an aerobics class. Aerobics classes don't have programming tests. This lesson does.
