Helios, the Sun

Helios, the sun had a mortal son named Phaethon. One morning, Phaethon came to Helios, his father, and begged him to grant a wish. Helios agreed, and swore by the underground river, Styx. When Phaethon told his father of his wish, Helios sorely regreted his oath. Phaethon wanted to drive the sun chariot for a day. When the chariot was brought forth, Phaethon leaped in and drove off. The horses quickly sensed that inexperienced hands were driving, and they veered left and right. They came near the animals of the Zodiac which were furious. The horses got scared and threw Phaethon out of the chariot, and he died. Helios grieved for his son, and never again let anyone except Apollo drive his chariot.
