In The
Beginning
In the beginning, there was nothing except Chaos. Out of this, Gaea, Mother Earth was borned. Above her rose Uranus, lord of the the universe. He was magnificent and Gaea fell in love with him. And together they had many children.
Gaea first gave birth to the Titans, six sons and six daughters who were taller than the tallest mauntains. These Titans were more human like than the six others she was soon to give birth to. After the Titans, Gaea had the three Cyclopes who were great smiths, and three gigantic monsters each with 50 heads and 100 arms. Uranus looked on these six of his children with disgust. He couldnt bare stand the sight of them so he threw them into Tartarus, a dark hole under the earth.
Mother Earth loved her children and cried bitterly over Uranus cruelty to her children. She decided to destroy Uranus.
She made a sickle, an implement for cutting grain, and begged her sons, the Titans.
Here, use this wepon and kill your cruel father. Then go and free your brothers.
Only her youngest son, Cronus dared to take task that laied before him. Uranus was no match for his strong son, so he fled.
Cronus was now the ruler of the heavans and earth. At first, he was going to free his brothers, but power changed him so it became him who imprisioned his brothers. This enraged Mother Earth who ploted Cronus downfall, but she had to wait until Rhea, Cronus wife gave birth to a child that would over throw him.
Cronus, too, knew this, so he swallowed all his children as soon as they were borned. Rhea grived for her children as one by one Cronus devoured them, Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, and Posedion. She was determined to save her sixth child, Zeus, by asking Mother Earth to hid him. Mother Earth hid the baby in a cave on the island of Crete and set noisy earth sprites outside the cave so the babys cries could not be heard.
Rhea the went to Cronus and gave him a stone wrapped in baby clothes to swallow instead of her son. Cronus was fooled and thought that all his children were safely inside him.
All the while, Zeus was tended by nymphs and nursed by the fairy goat Amatheia, who fed him honey and milk, far from his wicked father, Cronus. Zeus grew rapidly, and soon, he became a great new god.
Zeus then choose Metis, for his first wife. She helped him
trick Cronus into eating a poisonous potion. Cronus drank it and
soon became sick, he vomited up the stone and five children he
had swallowed. When Cronus saw his children, he gave up his
powers and fleed.
Zeus, unlike his father shared his powers with his brothers and
sisters. He also released the hundred-armed monsters who helped
them fight the Titans. The Cyclopees forged mighty weapons for
them.
A trident was made for Poseidon. Hades got a cap of invisibility. And for Zeus they forged lighting bolts. The three brothers drew lots to see who should be the ruler of what. Hades won the underworld, Poseidon the sea. And Zesu became lord of heaven and ruler of Mount Olympus.
