Many cars have front
wheel drive. With
front wheel drive, the engine power is connected to the front
wheels by a transaxle The transaxle does all the things that the
drive shaft and differential do in rear-wheel-drive car.
Front wheel drive
makes better use of the car's inside space because it eliminates
the big bump in the floor that rear-wheel-drive cars have. The bump
results from the latter's drive shaft, which is needed to carry
engine power to the read wheels. And because most of the car's
weight is over the drive wheels, front wheel drive has better
traction.
