Visiting Central Florida

We are very lucky that we live so close to such great education places in Florida. Taking advantage is just what one should do, and that is what we did. So, if you are in the central Florida area visiting the theme parks, take some of our activities with you to make it an extra special vacation. One other thing, this area of this particular site has not be viewed or approved by The Walt Disney World Company, which does not sponsor and is not affiliated with the designers or authors of this site. The photos were taken by the students who participated on the Think Quest team. Team member Corey who serves as model for the use of the quadrant on several pages on this site as well as the photographer of the pictures on this site.

Walt Disney World

During your next visit to Walt Disney World, make it more than an adventure--make it a learning experience. While working on this material we had nothing but the greatest cooperation from the Disney staff in each park. There was no problem bring in a yardstick quadrant nor was there any problems with verifying our figures in getting our answers. Please realize that Disney staff will not just give out answers especially since they are aware that there are several school projects out there.

So here we go to Disney World.

DISNEY/MGM STUDIOS

Our first quadrant project will be at the Tower of Terror. Team member Corey was standing in front of the Anaheim Produce stand (see photo) taking the measurements to the top of the Tower.

Sighting with your Quadrant

Using your yardstick quadrant and standing in front of the produce market take a measurement. Yard stick quadrants usually take two people to get a good measurement, one to site and one to read the degrees.

The Tower of Terror

See the yellow dot on top of the Tower, that is what you will aim for. You will not see that dot at the park, this is just a reference point. Site your quadrant for that point, then take your measurement. Pace off from the produce market to the entrance of the tower (the place where the ride host stands). Corey's pace was approximately three foot to one pace.

If you need to get closer for your measurements, proceed to the street post at Sunset Blvd. and Gower (that is where the stop and go sign is). It's a steeper measurement, but it still can be done.

C heck your answers in the Teacher's Corner

Let's move around the park to the Star Tours attraction.
