How Hot is the Vent?

Background:
The vent we are visiting registered 342 °C on our submersible's temperature probe. Just how hot is that on the Fahrenheit scale?

This image shows a temperature probe in a well-established vent community.

To convert Celsius to Fahrenheit, use this easy formula:
(((Celsius temperature x 9) / 5) + 32) = Fahrenheit temperature.

To convert Fahrenheit to Celsius, use this easy formula:
(((Fahrenheit temperature - 32) x 5) / 9) = Celsius temperature.

Problem:
Convert 342°C to its Fahrenheit equivalent

Solution:
342 x 9 = 3078

3078 / 5 = 615.6

615.6 + 32 = 647.6 °F

Once you have mastered the conversion formulae, you may want to use a software program to convert temperature, distance, area, volume, and weight between standard and metric measurements.

If you have a Mac, you can download MacVerter Metric, a shareware program at http://mirror.vector.co.jp/ftp/mirror/amug/files/educ/calc/macverter-2.3.sit.hqx

If you have a PC or a Mac, you can use this Web site of the Medical College of Wisconsin to convert weight and temperature: http://www.intmed.mcw.edu/clincalc/wtmeas.html
