The Chinese Flag

Today’s Chinese flag was adopted in 1949 after the revolution in which the Communist party gained power.

The Chinese Flag is composed of five yellow stars on a red background. The larger star represents the Communist party, the four smaller stars represent different classes of the society peasants, workers, bourgeoisie, and capitalists, all united under the Communist Party.

The background is red because red is the colour traditionally associated with Communism.

The flag which was used in China prior to the revolution is now used in Taiwan.
