A State of Art Conference was held at the Michaelis School of Fine Art in Cape Town. Here white artists became aware of their commitment to being South African. The artists who attended the conference made a conscious decision to effect change towards a post-Apartheid society and refused to participate in State-sponsored exhibitions until change occurred.
