Mpolokeng Ramphomane: Eye Witness
Ramphomane and his family received a visitation such as the ones mentioned above where police arrived at 2 o'clock in the morning demanding the rent. They were very violent and pointed their guns at the two small children in the house. Luckily, the family knew their rights, and his mother asked to see their court order and told them to stop harassing the family. Eventually they left, but the experience was traumatic for all, and the incident was the basis for this work, done in oil pastels. Ramphomane spent a year at the Rorke's Drift Art Centre in 1982 and has also studied with the Soweto Artists Association.
