Tricameral Parliament launched

As a result of international pressure, the Apartheid government passed a new constitution which stipulated a new parliament where there were three separate houses for Whites, Coloureds and Indians, with only limited representation of the latter two. Blacks were expected to have their own parliament in the Bantustans or homelands, and were therefore not included. The adoption of the new constitution resulted in a new surge of national violent uprisings.
