Willie Bester
| Old tin cans, discarded signs, bits of rags. Not the most obvious source of artistic inspiration. Unless, that is, you're Willie Bester, an exciting contemporary South African artist. Paper Plane Derby is a hand-painted
linocut that was done in 1998. |
Tucked away in a middle- to lower-class Cape Town suburb in a tiny back street, is the Hard Ground Printmaking workshop - home of Jonathan Comerford. He has astounding skill in a large number of printmaking techniques. His choice of printmaking as a medium is significant, and both exciting and stimulating to view. He is able to swap with ease between monochromatic, serious etchings and delightful images of wildlife animals. Join us as we explore his background, his Hard Ground workshop, and the development of his work to the present.
