Before you begin to formally learn French, it may be benificial to investigate what you already know about it. French and English are actually very closely related. Many words in these two languages are called cognates. Consider the following French paragraph. Do you recognize the underlined words? 
Le nouveau cola, Mici, est déjà un grand succès. Tous les enfants aiment ce cola. Les parfums sont orange, pêche, et cerise. "Le Mici d'orange est très bien avec les cheeseburgers," dit une fille parsienne. On peut acheter Mici à tous les cafés.

Now look at the same paragraph in English. Notice the similarities in the underlined words. These words are cognates.

The new cola, Mici, is already a great success. All the children love this cola. The flavors are orange, peach, and cherry. "Orange Mici is very good with cheeseburgers," said a parisian girl. You can buy Mici at every restaurant.
