The Aztec royal palace was very large and extravagant. The palace had two stories and a very large courtyard, where people would gather for discussions and parties. Paintings, carvings, and gold panels covered the walls. There were columns on the ground floor that supported the second floor. There were also columns on the second level to support the roof. The steps were most likely made of marble and were located directly in the center of the palace.

The rooms of the palace included: a reception chamber, where the king would meet with travelers, nobles, etc.; the emperor’s personal apartments; a meeting chamber, which served a similar purpose as the reception chamber, but was about three times larger; the emperor's throne room; and the emperor’s tribute store, where all of the gifts he received were stored.
