Various areas of the Mayan area    There are two types of roofs commonly found with Mayas. First, the sticking-out stone dome roof, and second, the concrete covered beam roofs of lime. This type of roofing is flat and consists of beams and lime concrete. It has been found in Piedras Negras, Uaxactun, and Tzimin Kax. Some can also be found in Chichen Itza as well as Tulum and Chac Mool.

This type of concrete roof was built on the top of crossed beams. They filled empty spaces with sticks then poured the lime concrete on top. Once the lime concrete roofing had dried firmly, the beams were taken out from underneath, leaving a concrete roof 30 or more centimeters thick. The Yucatan still use this method today. However, this type of roof is not perfect. Once the roofs start to crumble, it is hard to tell how long it will be until the rest falls down.
