That you are is more important than that what-you-are is something. An essentialist will say that we are God's children. Sartre would say that we are just humans that come to say they are God's children.
An essentialist will argue that we cannot know if objects exist outside of our perception of them becasue our only knowledge of their existence comes from perception. There foe we have no proof that there is a persisting sun on the horizon or whether there is no substance but just ideas in one single mind. The existentialist will ignore all that becasue obviously we believe that objects exist independently, and this belief does not hinder our existence. SO for the existentialist objects have independent existence becasue our everyday existence tells us so.
