I beleive that it is reasonable to say that events in WWI led to WWII into korea and then to the cold war . One can also follow the abolition of slavery as a series of interconnected events that has brought us where we are today . Body counts and moneys used are material, easily viewed and counted . The connections of lives made better are harder to judge for the gains continue to pay dividends . Of course this all sounds very idealistic - perhaps If I stayed within philosophical circles I could learn to defend my position with greater terms - but to have to call Love mere altruism would still remain a false and chosen observation .
