I was doing a search on Augustine and Aquinas concerning the nature of happiness, when I came upon your site. I didn't find exactly what I needed, but I realized that this is a GREAT site. You briefly stated most of the main points of the philosophers back in the day. And for college students, like myself, this is very useful (especially when you don't want to read the entire book). Well, keep it up, guys! ^_^ dahlia

"Very interesting!", as Little Bear would say. I initially visited your site in search of a specific quote from Sartre ...haven't found it yet, but I did find many other interes- ting and informative items and I will certainly return as time permits.

I have just completed reading Terry Pinkard's biography of Hegel. I very much admired and enjoyed the book. Having recently acquired my first computer (at the age of 40!), I thought I'd see what I could find for Hegel and in philosophy generally. This is a marvelous site. I can not imagine how it might be easier to use, even I can understand it. Thank you again.

While i think this website is very valuable and informative, it could benefit from providing links e.g. to philosophic texts online. Thankyou

I am a senior at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. My major is Legal Studies, however somewhere along the lines in my college carreer I developed a passionate interest in philosophy and the study of ancient philosophical thinkers. I have taken several philosophy courses as general requirements and electives. My reason for logging on to this site was to broaden the scope of my knowledge on this particular subject.

Hello intellectuals. I would like to share a quote in which you may already be familiar with, but I would like to share it anyhow because it has helped me and may help others who have moved to a different geographic area to do well and to prove they can make a success of their life because our sole purpose and/ or drive to do well and succeed in life, as each definition of success is differentiated. "Do Not Go Where The Path May Lead, Go Instead Where There Is No Path And Leave A Trail." Emerson (thank you for reading)

Does the philosophy lighthouse have a search engine, or any other way to find out virtue ethics? More explicity I am concerned with the distinction between the study of virtues and virtue ethics.

Dear Christina or whomever it pertains to: Great site, nicely done. Yet the quote "an unexamined life is not worth living" was said by Socrates not Plato. It was in Socrates' Apology during his trial that he shared that cooment which was witnessed and written by Plato. Thats all Dave

Nice work. I intend to use this site in the future when I need a quick reminder of the basic ideas of some of the philosophers here. The graphics were quite nice, except for the moving light on the lighthouse. It was a distraction when I was trying to read. The "Start thinking here" button was real clever....
