Pictured here is the control room
of the KABC television station. Here, television monitors show the
videos that are being shot from every camera that contributes to the
story. The director, center with the white hair, gives cues to the
anchors: when to begin the stories, when to stop; the cameramen: when
to begin shooting at another angle.
This man controls the audio levels
for all anchors, reporters and taped segments. There are many people
to take care of jobs regarding the sound, the cameras, live anchors,
and the script that the anchors will read. To broadcast a live news
show takes much work.
Here, in the transmission room, there are television
screens set to every network channel. These track the news stories
that other channels broadcast, and are there just so that ABC can
keep an eye on how the other stations are functioning. Also in the
room are computer screens where various news stories are tracked on
the Internet.
Weatherman Jonny Mountain delivers the weather, and
usually with a lot of humor. As you can see, the images of the
weather are not directly behind him, but rather on a television.
Jonny stands in front of a blue screen and looks into a monitor to
view the maps he uses dueing his weathercast.
