The Producer assigns writers different segments of the newscast. Writers are on call during the newscast in case breaking news calls for a new story.

While the producer, writers, and editors prepare the newscast, the floor director works with the anchors at their desks directing the speed of the Tele-Prompter, giving the anchors their cue, and making sure the anchors talk into the proper camera. The four cameras on the floor at KABC are robotic and controlled by a master camera-man.
