KABC (Los Angeles) anchor David Ono with Caroline Van Ness and Rosa Victorio

We were lucky enough to be able to take a tour of the KABC newsroom in Los Angeles, California. In the newsroom, they get all the stories together, check how long they are going to run ,what order they go in, and where the final video will be presented.

They have police scanners where they watch all of their monitors, watch the wires and they see what's going on. If something happens, like a shooting, they help keep up with what's happening out there and make sure someone is covering the story. KABC also makes sure that they are able to keep track of other stations to learn what they have as their lead stories, and then compare and contrast.

During the broadcast, anchors are reporters cut to previously taped segments put together with the help of an editor, like KABC's Bill Shiffman.

A lot of the script for the shows we see come in at the last minute, that's why they like to do it here in the newsroom. The cameras are actually robotic and the guy that runs them sits in back and runs all four at once while on the air.

See how the producer, writer and directors put together the newscast presented by the anchors!
