
Digital Camera: A camera that stores photographs digitally, as opposed to on a negative. The photographs can be viewed by uploading the pictures to a computer.
File Transfer Protocol (FTP): The areas where information to be viewed on the world wide web is uploaded to, or where one can download documents and software programs from other computers.
Gopher: A popular internet software that allows you to look in different internet libraries for information.
HTML: Short for HyperText Markup Language, this is the programming language used to create web pages. Your web browser translates the information into a web page, just like the one you're looking at now.
Scanner: A machine that can put an image onto a computer by scanning it for it's color, size, etc. This can be useful for putting artwork (such as drawing or photographs) onto a web site.
Web Browser: Programs, such as Netscape and Microsoft Internet Explorer, which translate HTML and let you navigate the world wide web.
Web Page: It's what you're looking at right now. A document made up of HTML that often has graphics and links to other sites.
Zip disk: A disk that can store 100 Megabytes of information. This technology is useful for backing up computer files in online newsrooms.
