| Water & Fibres These
two items are essential to our diet, but they cannot be classified as nutrients. Our body
will not function properly without them. They are water and
fibre (roughage).
Water
Over 60 % of our body is water. We can remain
alive for many days without food, but we cannot survive a day without water because we are continuously losing it through
our urine and sweat. So, a regular intake is essential.
Fibres
We are unable to digest fibres. It stimulates the peristalsis of the gut that helps to
move food along it. Fibre can prevent us from
constipation.
