Setting up Email in Netscape Communicator

1. To set up Netscape Communicator for an email address, click on Edit at the top of the screen and choose Preferences. You will now get a Preferences window. Click the + beside Mail & Groups. Your window should now look like the one below:

2. Now choose Identity. Type in your name under name, the email address you want to set up under email address, and any of the other options you may want.

3. Next click on Mail Server. For user name, you should usually use the first part of your email address (ie. John_S@ISP.com would probably have a user name of John_S).

4. The next step is to set the outgoing and incoming mail servers. These are usually the same, but not always. Common server names are mail.domain.com. The geocities mail server is mail.geocities.com.

5. Finally, click OK and your email is setup. More advanced options can be chosen, but these basic settings will work fine.

Other Netscape Features

Page Source

One very important browser feature is view page source. It is extremely useful for HTML beginners to learn how different things are done on a web page. This can be done on any browser by going up to View on the top of the screen and choosing either page source or document source (depending on the browser).

Bookmarks

Another useful feature is the bookmarks. In Internet Explorer, these are called favorite places. Bookmarks are used to keep track of sites you've visited that you might want to return to. You can add a bookmark in Netscape by going up to Bookmarks and clicking on Add Bookmark. This will put the site at the bottom of the list. The list can be customized with Edit Bookmarks. See graphic at left.
