Typing Basics - The Basement Keys

Well, the old saying goes "what goes up must come down". We have just covered most of the top keys. We will come back to the few we didn't cover at a later time. Now it's time to take the elevator down to the basement and cover that bottom row of keys. You have already mastered the basic reaching motion. Now you just have to learn to reach down to the keys in the bottom row as opposed to up to the keys in the top row. This is simple enough. To start out let's try a simple exercise. Take your finger that is on the j key now and move it down to the n. Now let's try it with your left hand. Take the forefinger of your left hand, which should be on the f key now, and bring it down to the v key and then back up again. Practice these motions until you are comfortable with them. Now try the other fingers just as you did when we were going up. You should become familiar with these motions. and which finger goes down to hit which letter. Wow, you are making quick work of this typing stuff. You already know how to type 22 characters and 4 other symbols. Well, it's that time again proceed to lesson 5 in the exercises in typing and master this exercise as you have mastered the others. Don't forget to keep an optimistic attitude. It always takes some time and a lot of practice to learn how to type. You have taken a great challenge trying to learn touch typing on the internet. This site will be here for a while, so there's no rush. Just keep up the good work and you'll be typing with the pros in no time.
