Mystery Solved?

The famous, yet unclear, image of the face on Mars taken by the Viking Orbiter in the early 1980's is famous for provoking debates on whether or not intelligent life exists or once existed on Mars. Here is the image that many people believe proves that life exists on Mars:

Recently, the Mars Global Surveyor, given the chance, rephotographed the cydonia region on Mars where the face is. With better optics and imaging instruments, the Mars Global Surveyor sent back an image of what is supposed to be the face.

This image is unmagnified, filtered and contrast enhanced.

The original image of the face was magnified which gave it the appearance of a "face." However, despite the new evidence, many people still believe that the face was constructed by an intelligent lifeform and point to the fact that the new image was "enhanced" to their own specifications.
