F-4 Phantom 11 jet-fighter 10-9-1971
Airforce captain John Romero and co-pilot Norman Northrup did take-off from the Homestead Air Force Base in Miami, Florida shortly after eight o'clock in the morning. The jet-fighter was followed until it was about 50 kilometre south-east of the base and then it disappeared from the radar screen. A search operation was started immediately, both in the air and at sea, but although the water in most parts of the area was not more than nine meters deep nothing was found. A magneto meter which was used to locate the Phantom did trace unknown wrecks but could not find any track from the jet-fighter.
