Introduction to Chemistry

Welcome to the wonderful world of Chemistry.  I'm your host, Adam Atom.
Chemistry can be defined as the study of matter.  In chemistry, matter matters.  Matter is anything that occupies space and has mass.  As a general rule, if you can touch it, then it's matter.  If it has any physical form, it is matter.  Chemistry is not to be confused with physics, the study of energy.  Energy can not be touched.  If you are dealing with energy you are using physics.  When you deal with matter, it's chemistry.  The two often go together, due to their nature.

This is best explained in the Law of Conservation of Mass and Energy.  Matter and energy can not be created or destroyed.  The two are interchangeable however, as explained in Einstein's law, E=MC².  In this law, E is energy, M is mass, and C is the speed of light.

Now, go on to Chemistry: Basics.  See 'ya there!
