As a rental agent in a resort area, the computer is indispensible to me. Prior to computers, index cards were used to record reservations; imagine! Now I can handle hundreds of properties, place reservations, refer to prior tenants in our database of 25,000 names/addresses, do accounting procedures, integrate information on reservations with a word processing program for letters, and keep track of maintenance items as well. Also, all agents are instantly advised of reservations, problems, changes, new properties, etc., as we are on a network among three different office locations in our town. The software program our company uses can be customized in many ways to suit our area and needs. The computer provides extra checks to avoid errors (such as "double bookings"). Finally, our comany now has our entire Maryland/Delaware resort rentals catalog on-line. Prospective tenants can view properties over the inter-net and contact us with any further questions as well as reservation requests. Being on-line has opened our marketing area from simply the east coast of the US to worldwide. Computers have surely enhanced this business and changed our life for the better.
