I am a Senior Rental Coordinator for a large real estate company in the resort area of Ocean City, Maryland. The software program I use is called First Resorts Software. It enables our company to make reservations. The software also includes accounting programs, word processing capability, and sales tracking/commission computing capability. We are on a network of several offices. Each computer has Windows (some Win95 and some Win 3.1). The software enables us to print labels for mailings as well as for our "check in packages."

I also have a communication software program (pcAnywhere) enabling me to connect to my work computer from home. I am "on call" seven days and nights a week, when I get calls at home with problems of property owners and tenants. Now, I can dial into my work computer from home through pcAnywhere . It enables me to handle questions efficiently from home. That's been a real boost this year!

I do computer consulting for friends and family. My favorite thing I get to do is teach people how to do what theu have always wanted to do with computers. When I use computers to first of all design adds, proccing sheets, and keep a databse of all the computer shtat I work with and every thing has been wrong with them. The most inportant thing to know if you are condering the conulting fild is that your certifacations and a kind atitude are the most inportan. Read and keep up with the industry and also what is hapening in the otside world.

Adult Girl Scout

The three above responses were from groups of Brownie Girl Scouts. Each entered her initial for her name, and together they shared one sentence about how they used computers in their 3rd grade classrooms. It is interesting that they will now be able to use this web site to work on a Careers "Try-It." Thanks for sharing this website with the troop. I hope these and other girls will interview more people and then use the computer to share their findings with all of us. I know of a Senior Girl Scout who, since being in Juniors, has made a data base in ClarisWorks to keep track of her badge requirements and progress. There is an idea to share for other Girl Scouts who see this site.

I am an attorney. I use computers extensively for word processing, legal research (CD-ROM), time keeping and billing, and communicating (email). Sometimes I will investigate items via the internet, at web sites containing public information. There are links at my website for some of those sites.

I am disabled and mostly homebound, so the computer and specifically the internet is my connection to others with my illness and the outside world. I am on several "mail groups" of people with my disease and find them very helpful for both information and support. My family is spread across the country but we are all on line and communicate daily by email. We are much closer now than years ago before we got connected by computers.

At my school, computers are used in the library for searches, and in labs to conduct research. They are also used to go online and research various topics. Also, computers are used in computer classes and in classrooms.

I don't see a category specifically listed for the federal government, but I work in the Judicial Branch, for the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts. Staff at our agency all use pcs for e-mail, WordPerfect, Excel, Powerpoint, Project. We run Novel network software. In addition, our division of the agency is one of two which is involved with putting computers in the federal courts (appellate, district and bankruptcy), for the courts to use in docketing cases, as well as allowing public access to case information on-line. Our newest application under development, will allow attorneys and parties to do case filing on-line, without having to go to the courthouse to file the relevant documents. My job specifically is as a budget analyst and procurement specialist, helping to purchase much of the hardware and software my division needs for its day-to-day operations; my most used applications are Excel, and e-mail. Is this the kind of info you were looking for? Since I also work as a volunteer police officer for Fairfax County, and use a computer for several of the jobs I do for the department, I have left another message in the "Volunteer " category. thanks! Hope you win the competition. e-c

The computers at the music library can call-up any song in their collection and you can listen to it right there, without ever having to speak to a librarian or check anything out! It's so convenient. (that is if you can ever find a computer station that's not being used)
