The Great Zimbabwe
The Shonan people were skilled artisans. They produced weapons of iron, gold and copper jewelry, painted pottery, soapstone dishes, and statues. Numerous finds of weaving tools showed that producing textiles was very common. Throughout the area archeologist have found carved soapstone birds. It is thought that these birds represented links between the dead kings and the living.
It was around 1450 that The Great Zimbabwe entered its decline. It is unclear what caused it, but numerous possibilities exist. Neighboring armies could have attacked and weakened it, or with the large population natural resources could have run out and the people were forced to move elsewhere.
