"Eddie Holland shaped their vocals; Brian Holland mastered a signature sound in the studio. The molding didn't stop there. Auxiliary tutelage was provided by the Artists Development Department of Motown, a team consisting of musical director, a choreographer, vocal coaches, wardrobe consultants, and advisors on stage patter and social etiquiette."

Formula for Success
The Supremes
, Diana Ross, Mary Wilson, and Florence Ballard, were one of the most succesful female groups of the 60's. All three grew up singing together in Detroit. During high school they knew the Primes (later to become the Temptations) and called themselves the Primettes. Berry Gordy of Motown Records signed them soon after they graduated high school. He paid special attention to them, making them take singing and dance lessons.
In 1964 the Supremes had their first #1 single "Where Did Our Love Go?" It was their tenth single. Due to personal conflicts Ballard quit the Supremes in 1967 and was replaced by Cindy Birdsong. The Supremes had many different members and stayed together from 1961 to the late 70's. Some of their other hits include "Stop! In The Name of Love," "Baby Love," "Back in My Arms Again," "You Keep Me Hangin On," and "Someday We'll Be Together." The Supremes were the most successful female group of the 60's and epitomized the Motown sound.
