Roxette

The duo, was started in Halmstad 1986 by Per Gessle (f 1959) and Marie Fredriksson (f 1958), it wasn't meant to be a serious project but more like a hobby. Roxette's rocket career heading for the stars started with an American radio station more often playing "The Look." An exchange student had brouhgt it there from Sweden, and a discjockey liked it. Then it spread, it made it to the top of the list of best selling records in America.

Since then Roxette has had four USA hits -- to compare with ABBA's two. One of them is the ballad, "It Must Have Been Love," that was part of the soundtrack for the movie "Pretty Woman."

Gessle was known as a composer of catchy pop--tunes, already as he played in the group Gyllene Tider in the begining of 80's. Fredriksson was respected as solo artist before the two of them started to play together, making themselves the biggest Swedish musical export since ABBA.

Roxette is only consisting of Gessle and Fredriksson, the rest of the band is rented for the gigs and recordings, but the keyboardist and guitarist Clarence Öfwermans arranging talants have made him some sort of unofficial "chapellmastare."

Albums: Pearls of Passion (1986), Look Sharp! (1988), Joyride (1991), Tourism (1992).
