Folkfesten, The People's Party--Malmo, Sweden

Folkfesten, (The people's party) is a music festival that is held every year in Malmo, southern Sweden. The first festival was held in 1971. Back then it was a part of the Swedish music movement, which meant a lot of politics. Nowadays there's no such bonds, but you still can see a lot of "Woodstockish" people going around on the festival.

It's free to enter the festival, but to support the union that organise the festival, you can buy a pin for a small amount of money. To make the festival be free, all the bands play with no reward, but their travelling expenses are paid. All people involved in building fences, selling pins, cooking food and so on, work without being paid. To make the budget work, the commune sponsors the festival.

Every year some 10-15 000 people come to the festival. Everyone I saw looked happy, despite the bad weather!
