"I have no picture of Cardigans to put here. I have a picture of Nina Persson that my father took when we met them on the ferry when we were going to Israel but he forgot to ask Nina so we will not use it. Maybe we can get another one if we ask."

Cardigans

The Cardigans Is a swedish pop group that has reached international fame, mostly in Japan but also in Great Britain, with their 1960-influenced pop-jazz style. The group started in 1992 in Jönköping, but they moved to Malmö in 1994 .

Members: The singer Nina Persson (f 1974), guitarist and song writer Peter Svensson (f 1974), bassist Magnus Sveningsson (f 1972), gitarist and pianist Lasse Johansson (f 1973) and trumslagaren Bengt Lagerberg (f 1973).

The Cardigans made their debut in 1994 with the album Emmerdale, then came the album Life (1995), which also featured the hit single Carnival. 1996 was the year when The Cardigans really broke through and made it on an international level, and became more than those funny cocktail popstars that the Japanese love.

With the third album First Band on the Moon and the hit single Lovefool they grew big in Japan and Sweden, England was hard to get but their lyrics especially impressed English critics. They have not yet become big on the large US-market but it has slowly opened to them and shown them interest.

Cardigans are really big in Japan. They are riding on the retrowave. The interest in their new hometown Malmö and the Tambourine studio is so great that travel agencies are arranging tourist trips from Japan to Malmö.
