|
Birgit Jacobsson
Sweden's first female rock-star In 1958 she took part in a contest that
was called "Youth with Tone." By then rock'n'roll had just reached Sweden and Swedish kids were listening to Elvis Presley and Tommy Steele. She won and there she got the name Rock-Olga from the conferenciere. The same year she started to perform at Nalen in Stockholm and became a big favorite to youth in Stockholm.
On New Years Eve 1958 Rock-Olga also entered the big contest in the radio show "Timmen Tumba." She came third only beaten by Rock-Boris and Rock Ragge but before the four other female contestants.
After that she was crowned the Queen of Swedish Rock'n Roll.
Her record debut came in 1959
with "My Dixieland Doll" and then she
toured successfully until 1962 when she took a year off. She spent it devoting
time to her great hobbies cars and motorbikes. She sporadically tried to make comeback especially in the beginning of the 70's together with other former rock
stars.
