"Music is one medium that can equally touch a range of people with one swoop...can talk to many people across societies, races, ages..."

Interview with Dave Lancaster, DJ, KSSK First off...it was _great_ Dave Lancaster makes a terrific interview subject. He's articulate, observant, _and_ likes the Beatles ;)

Background: DJ, KSSK an AM station targeting the 25-65 year old audience; worked for KCCN--Hawaiian music station; and for Bishop Museum (so we were able to get some info on Hawaiian activist music)...

Dave talked about how music is like a cycle and that things just re-occur...musical styles re-surface...for example, today's artists such as Alanis Morisette and Jewell are kinda like modern versions of folk rock (acoustic guitar). He talked about the origins of folk rock, which is like expressing feelings on issues.

He talked about rock and how that originated...kinda like looked down upon when it first came out and there were protests against the music. Each new generation feels it is misunderstood.

"Music is one medium that can equally touch a range of people with one swoop...can talk to many people across societies, races, ages..."

Music can affect people ...some people take the lyrics too seriously and it may lead them to commit crimes or other actions.

We asked him whether he knew of any influential bands and he mentioned the Beatles...He talked about how you can follow history through their music...their style changed, appearance changed...as the times changed. He talked about how they merged different styles...they put string and brass instruments into their songs...complex style
