The Musical Heritage of Bob Dylan

...a reflection of how his songs are in the minds of today's writers and directors as they think about the soundtrack of people's lives...

Well, there are MANY links

HOOTIE used a line from a song in I Really Wanna Be With You" or whatever that song is - he used a line from a Dylan song:

"They say I shot a man named Gray and took his wife to Italy,
She inherited a million bucks and when she died it came to me.
I can't help it if I'm lucky."

Also, Counting Crows' "MR. JONES" is a reference to Ballad of a Thin Man ("Something is happening, and you don't know what it is, DO YOU, MR. JONES!!!!") - and he says "I WANNA BE BOB DYLAN" or something like that.

If you just listen to the voices of most PUNK and GRUNGE there's a lot of BOB in there - that's the VOICE, not just the lyrics---

Wyclef Jean used Bob in his Video "GONE TIL NOVEMBER" and is supposedly thinking of a hip-hop/rap tribute.

Then there's the WALLFLOWERS - Jakob Dylan.

How's about BECK? Thought of as a "new dylan" - and he uses a lot of electronica.

Dylan songs are showing up in all kinds of soundtracks too - a reflection of how his songs are in the minds of today's writers and directors as they think about the soundtrack of people's lives...
