Well, there are MANY links HOOTIE used a line from a song in I Really Wanna Be With You" or whatever that song is - he used a line from a Dylan song: "They say I shot a man named Gray and took his wife to
Italy,
Also, Counting Crows' "MR. JONES" is a reference to Ballad of a Thin Man ("Something is happening, and you don't know what it is, DO YOU, MR. JONES!!!!") - and he says "I WANNA BE BOB DYLAN" or something like that. If you just listen to the voices of most PUNK and GRUNGE there's a lot of BOB in there - that's the VOICE, not just the lyrics--- Wyclef Jean used Bob in his Video "GONE TIL NOVEMBER" and is supposedly thinking of a hip-hop/rap tribute. Then there's the WALLFLOWERS - Jakob Dylan. How's about BECK? Thought of as a "new dylan" - and he uses a lot of electronica. Dylan songs are showing up in all kinds of soundtracks too - a reflection of how his songs are in the minds of today's writers and directors as they think about the soundtrack of people's lives... etc
