Foucault, Jean Bernard Leon

Jean Foucault was a French physicist, took the first photograph of the Sun in 1845, measured the velocity of light in the laboratory using a rapidly rotating mirror, and showed that the brain combines separate color images from the two eyes into a single image.
Some of his achievements.
His name is also associated with important developments in telescope mirrors, lenses, prisms, and arc lamps, but most of all with the gyroscope and the Foucault pendulum, with which he demonstrated, rather than deduced, the rotation of the Earth for the first time.
